Grant lets farmers markets go wireless TACOMA, WA, MARCH 9, 2009 Source: Business Examiner
Beginning this spring, 21 farmers markets throughout Washington will be fully equipped to accept credit, debit and Electronic Benefits Transfers to purchase market goods, including fresh, local farm products. South Sound markets were recipients of these point-of-sale machines to make purchasing fresh produce even easier for customers in all income brackets and widen the customer base for the small business owners who make their livings off small sales at these agricultural markets.
This wireless campaign is an effort by the Washington State Farmers Market Association Wireless Technology Pilot Project, which was made possible through an initiative to assist farmers markets in developing the capacity to accept wireless electronic payment cards.
Grantee markets will be provided with wireless point of sale terminals from GoMobile Commerce, training and technical assistance, outreach, guidance, and necessary supplies and marketing materials. Prior to launching the program, a representative from each market will participate in an all-day training course hosted by WSFMA and GoMobile Commerce. Market shoppers will use their cards to purchase tokens which will then be used to buy locally produced goods from individual vendors.
Data collected during this two-year project on the amounts and number of the various electronic payments will be used to measure tangible benefits to participating markets in the future.

New product, new path for Spectrum TACOMA, WA – October 13, 2008 Source: Business Examiner Author: Hilary Reeves
When Heather Mickelson stumbled across the Blue Bamboo’s H50 terminal – Florida-based Virtual Payment Solution’s brand new, technologically advanced wireless credit card machine, she knew she could sell it. Mickelson, owner of the Tacoma office of Spectrum Merchant Services , immediately began planning the launch of a new branch of her company: GoMobile Commerce.
“There has been a demand for rentals (of wireless credit card machines) in the marketplace and (it) has long been unfulfilled,” Mickelson said.
GoMobile Commerce launched on Aug. 15 and was the first company in the nation to allow merchants to rent the Blue Bamboo without long-term contracts. The terminal processes credit card transactions over a secure online gateway via the AT&T wireless network and can be recharged anywhere – even in a car. Among GoMobile’s first customers were mobile retailers doing business at the Tacoma Farmer’s Market.
“The demand is there, it’s just a matter of getting the product in front of the customer,” Mickelson said. “Other credit card machines are like the ‘brick’ cell phones in comparison.”
A majority of Mickelson’s customers looking to rent the machines are planning an event: a trade show, auction, fundraiser or an event that required onsite ticket sales.
“That’s kind of our niche – auctions and trade shows,” Mickelson said. Business owners looking to buy the machine include limo and taxi drivers, handymen, locksmiths and onsite photographers, to name a few.
Unlike older portable credit card processing machines, GoMobile’s Blue Bamboo doesn’t require a phone line. “The headache has been programming the machine through a phone line,” Mickelson said.
If a customer’s existing merchant services accounts can be accessed online, the company’s details are pre-programmed into the wireless machine. Those without an existing merchant services account can access the device through Spectrum. GoMobile Commerce has exploded, Mickelson said, and she’s had to add to her staff just to serve the demand. Her best friend’s husband was so interested in the product, he volunteered to open a satellite office near his home in Hawaii, and the demand there is also increasing. Mickelson said she’ll soon move her businesses out of the William Factory Small Business Incubator and into her own space.
“Eventually, we want to get more feet on the street selling the product locally,” said Mickelson, who recently began touting the machine to fellow merchant services companies, such as Lacey’s Fast Transact. “In four to five months, we’ll start looking for a new space.”

GoMobile Commerce gears up for the holidays
TACOMA, WA - October 8, 2008
GoMobile Commerce announced today they have hired four additional staff for their shipping and receiving department. With the holidays approaching, so is the demand for their products. GoMobile is the first company in the nation to offer wireless credit card processing solutions without any long term commitments. It’s perfect for a holiday vendor who may not have a phone line or power at their location.
Since opening its doors in August 2008, demand for their product and services has increased rapidly. Nearing 200 credit card machines in their inventory, it was necessary to hire additional staff to ship and deploy the equipment to the various locations. “Going wireless is the only way to go,” remarked customer service manager, KaDeana Franks. Their client base is nationwide, ranging from New York to Hawaii, and everywhere in between. “If a cell phone will work at your location, so will our wireless credit card machines,” added Franks.
On the wall in their corporate office in Tacoma, Washington, is a large map of the USA with 200 blue pushpins. Each pushpin represents a credit card terminal and its current location, flagged with its customer information and contact information. Franks noted, “We joke around here that our terminals have the best job at GoMobile. The terminals travel the US and attend many upscale and fun events. ” She later added that GoMobile Commerce staff may accompany the terminals if the event calls for over 10 machines.
In late August, GoMobile opened its doors in Maui, adding an additional office outside the mainland. Their future plans are to increase their presence in the east coast, with a new office and new deployment facility on the horizon. As the shipping department is fully staff, so is their sales and support. While economic times may be uncertain, one thing is certain: GoMobile Commerce has captured a unique marketplace and demand and is headed for steady growth.
GoMobile Commerce gears up for the holidays season on wireless equipment and labor. With the holidays around the corner, many merchants are looking for a short term credit card processing solution for their holiday festival, mall kiosk, and charity events.

It is the company’s first location outside of the Mainland, and there are plans to expand over the next year to Alaska.

Clients, for example, will be outdoor activities vendors on Maui, trade shows, traveling local bands and taxis.
GoMobile Commerce Launches Wireless Rental Division
TACOMA, WA – August 15, 2008 GoMobile Commerce announced today they are the first in the nation to offer a wireless credit card machine rental program inclusive of all set up fees and free of long term commitments and contracts.
“There has been a demand for rentals [of wireless credit card machines] in the marketplace and has long been unfulfilled. We are excited to introduce our solution and to be the first to meet the market’s demand,” remarked Heather Mickelson, Managing Partner.
GoMobile Commerce’s wireless machines process credit card transactions over a secure online gateway via the AT&T wireless network. Traditional wireless machines required time consuming downloads and hefty activation fees, making a wireless rental program out of reach.
Their seven day rental price is inclusive of all fees: activation, wireless connection, shipping and clients are not required to change their current processor nor sign a lengthy contract. For merchants who process credit cards once a year, such as an annual charity event or tradeshow, the rental program is a perfect solution.
“We used GoMobile Commerce at our weekend long tradeshow in Las Vegas. After being quoted $100 a day to rent a hotel’s phone line for a credit card machine, GoMobile Commerce’s solution was the most affordable and definitely the most convenient,” noted GoMobile Commerce’s client Shon Sullivan, President of 3GEES Media.
Their website boasts equipment for up to 150 units at one event. Onsite technicians are available 24 hours a day for larger events. For those renting less than 10 machines, the company provides a 24 hour toll-free number for technical support and quick reference guides.
